About the book

It starts on hard streets in San Antonio, moves to Detroit at sixteen, and passes through a first apartment in Roseville, Michigan that held more clustered machines than furniture. It ends with a plain statement of what its author believes about the systems now sold as artificial intelligence.

In between it follows language models from Shannon's guessing game to tool-using agents and makes one argument a chapter at a time. These machines guess. Most of the guardrails around them are more guessing. Capability compounds on a clock of months while jobs, schools and statutes move in years. Under the current rules the side that keeps winning is the AI stack itself, and whoever holds it.

The last chapter is written for builders: what a deterministic gate is, why the model should propose and a fixed layer should dispose, and what anyone shipping these systems owes the people on the other end of them.
